Gail E. Donnelly is largely a self-taught artist. Charcoal drawing was her first love, and from time to time she nurtured that love by taking drawing courses at local colleges throughout New England. Gail considered a career in commercial art and illustration and took classes at the Philadelphia College of Art, but eventually got her degree in physical therapy at Boston University - a choice made because of its focus on people - helping them to reach their functional goals after illness or injury.
People and pets frequently populate Gail's art. She is intrigued by the person behind the face and immerses herself in the painting to find those particular traits or features that reveal the personality and heart of the individual. Although Gail still loves drawing, since discovering watercolor, this medium has become her medium of choice. The transparency of watercolor paint on white paper reflecting light and a glow to the viewer allows her to render portraits that express and portray the person within.
Gail lives in northern Vermont with her husband, Jack, where she is now following her passion to paint watercolor portraits of people and pets. She is a signature member of the Vermont Watercolor Society as well as an associate member of the New England Watercolor Society and a member of the of the Essex Art League.
